Post-waiver wire fantasy football pickups for Week 6

Does the Packers bye week have you (Aaron) Jones-ing for another running back? Has the waiver wire been (Kenny) Pickett-ed clean? Save your Week 6 matchup with these undervalued options still available in most leagues.

QB: Desmond Ridder (Atlanta Falcons)

The Colts’ Gardner Minshew should be a popular choice now that Anthony Richardson is on the IR, but if he’s unavailable, Ridder could have value against the Commanders. The second-year quarterback threw for a career-high 329 yards and completed 75.7% of his passes against the Texans last week.

More importantly, Ridder looks like he’s establishing some much needed chemistry with his receivers. Wide receiver Drake London had a season-high 78 yards against Houston and tight end Kyle Pitts led the team with seven catches for 87 yards on 11 targets.

The Commanders are giving up a dreadful 32 points per game this year, second most in the league. They’ve also allowed the fourth-most fantasy points (21.43) per game to quarterbacks.

Ridder is available in 93% of Yahoo! leagues.

RB: Kendre Miller (New Orleans Saints)

The third-round rookie had 12 carries for 37 yards and a season-high four catches for 53 yards in a blowout win against the Patriots last week. His 33-yard swing pass in the second quarter turned out to be New Orleans’ longest play on a day he finished as the team’s second-leading receiver.

Saints running back Jamaal Williams remains on the IR with a hamstring injury, which makes Miller an intriguing RB2 behind Alvin Kamara. If New Orleans continues to use him in the passing game, the former Horned Frog could have real value against a Houston team allowing 24.92 points per game to running backs this year.

Miller is available in 86% of Yahoo! leagues.

WR: Rashee Rice (Kansas City Chiefs)

The team’s second-round pick from SMU had a modest four catches for 33 yards and a touchdown against the Vikings last week, but his 13.3 fantasy points were a season high.

According to offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, Rice has earned more playing time, and from the sounds of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the talented rookie can expect more targets.

Keep in mind that tight end Travis Kelce played through an ankle injury on Sunday and won’t be 100% by Thursday night. Rice could easily break out against a Broncos team that’s allowed the second-most passing yards (1,315) in the NFL.

Rice is available in 57% of Yahoo! leagues.

TE: Jonnu Smith (Atlanta Falcons)

After being shut out against the Panthers in Week 1, Smith hasn’t seen fewer than six targets in any game. Pitts had 20 more yards against the Texans on Sunday, but each saw seven targets with Smith getting eight more offensive snaps.

Smith actually has more fantasy points than Pitts this season, and offers a safe floor with an average of 10.9 fantasy points per game in 2023.

Smith is available in 83% of Yahoo! leagues.

DST: Jacksonville Jaguars

After two weeks abroad, the Jaguars welcome the Indianapolis Colts to Duval County this week. While in London, Jacksonville’s defense tallied four sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries, one returned for a touchdown.

With Colts QB Anthony Richardson on the IR with a shoulder injury, Minshew gets the start against the team that drafted him in 2019. The five-year veteran could be the league’s best backup quarterback, but he’s infinitely more sackable than Richardson.

The Jaguars’ defense is available in 77% of leagues.

K: Ka’imi Fairbairn (Houston Texans)

We made Fairbairn our guy for Week 5, and he responded with double- digit fantasy points for the third week in a row. His 14 fantasy points against the Falcons tied for third most in Week 5 and his season total of 53 fantasy points are third-most in the league.

Fairbairn is available in 84% of leagues.
