Boston Celtics Signed A New Player On Monday Evening
USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics are getting ready for the postseason and looking to make yet another run to the NBA Finals with All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way.

On Monday night, their front-office made a move to bring in Justin Champagnie from the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA G League.

Over the last two seasons, Champagnie has spent time with the Toronto Raptors, playing in a total of 39 NBA games and averaging 2.2 points in about 7.5 minutes per game.

In the G League however, Champagnie has played really well for the Skyforce this season. Playing in a total of 23 G League games this year, the 21-year-old forward has averaged 18.2 points and about 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the floor.

Going undrafted out of Pittsburgh in the 2021 NBA Draft, Justin Champagnie is the twin brother of current San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie.

In college, Justin Champagnie had a stellar sophomore season and earned First-team All-ACC honors in 2021 as a result.

While Mfiondu Kabengele and JD Davison currently occupy both of Boston's two-way contracts, the Celtics do only have 14 players under contract right now, giving them the ability to add one more player.

With the season winding down the Celtics still within two games of the Milwaukee Bucks for the 1-seed in the Eastern Conference, it will be interesting to see if Joe Mazzulla looks to push his core group for the top-seed.

The Celtics next game on Tuesday on the road against the Philadelphia 76ers will be very telling in terms of whether or not they have a chance at overthrowing the Bucks for the top-seed in the conference before the conclusion of the regular season.
