Chicago White Sox Starting Pitcher Has Tremendous Night In Win On May 10
Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago White Sox Staring Pitcher Garrett Crochet had a career night at home on Friday against the Cleveland Guardians. He tossed six scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters. Crochet only surrendered five hits on Friday night as well. With 64 strikeouts, Crochet is second in Major League Baseball in punchouts trailing only Starting Pitcher Tyler Glasnow of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Crochet is 3-4 on the season with an ERA of 4.63.

Crochet has been a bit up and down in 2024. He has surrendered between five and seven runs in three of his 10 starts while surrendering no more than two earned runs in any of his other starts. Crochet at 24 years of age is still finding his footing in the majors, but is on the right path.

Will he be able to continue improving during the 2024 season?

Recapping Friday Night’s 6-3 Chicago White Sox Win

Crochet was locked in a pitcher duel with the Guardians Carlos Carrasco on Friday. Carrasco went seven innings and surrendered five runs, only three of which were earned. The White Sox offense was held in check until they put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Luckily the White Sox offense tacked on runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to compensate for a shaky performance by their bullpen.

The Chicago White Sox bullpen surrendered three runs over three innings of work last night. Following last night’s win, the White Sox are now 11-28 on the season. Chicago’s .282 winning percentage is third-worst in the league.

Garrett Crochet Career Summary

Crochet made his Major League debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2020 and was exclusively a relief pitcher prior to the 2024 season. He was also named the team’s Opening Day starter following the trade of former Cy Young runner-up Dylan Cease in mid-March to the San Diego Padres.

Crochet missed the entirety of the 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery and returned to the diamond in May of 2023. He has a career record of 6-11 with a 3.46 ERA.

Upcoming White Sox Schedule

Chicago has two more games at home against the Guardians before hosting the Washington Nationals for a three-game set beginning on Monday. Crochet will look to build on his career night during his next scheduled start on Wednesday, May 15 against the Nationals. It has been another rough season on the North Side of Chicago, but players like Crochet give Chicago White Sox fans hope that success is not too far off.
