Canelo Alvarez appears ready to return to the boxing ring.

The reigning champion and Premier Boxing Champions are working on a new three-fight deal. The first of those bouts would see Alvarez take on Jaime Munguia on May 4.

According to Boxing News 24, the negotiations are still ongoing, but they are getting closer to becoming official. To really amp up the promotion for May, the fight will need to be completed as soon as possible.

Previously, Alvarez and PBC broke up with the champion expected to sign with DAZN. However, he now looks to return to the promotion he has called home for his most recent bouts.

While Munguia is an unbeaten contender, he is far below on the list of top fighters fans have wanted to see challenge Alvarez. He is 43-0 with 34 knockouts to his credit, including a January finish of John Ryder to retain the WBC Silver super middleweight belt.

Mike Coppinger reported on social media that the deal “could be for one fight, could be for two.”

“Canelo Alvarez and PBC discussing Jaime Munguia fight May 4 after sides split last week,” Coppinger wrote. “If the deal is reached, this would be a new pact. Canelo was discussing a two-fight deal with DAZN for fights with Munguia and Edgar Berlanga.”

Alvarez had two fights remaining on his three-bout deal with PBC that was signed last June.
